Keeping your home clean between professional cleanings can feel like a never-ending game of whack-a-mole – you clean one area, and suddenly another spot pops up that needs attention. But fear not, my fellow clean freaks, for there are some simple strategies to help you keep your home looking spick and span between professional cleanings – and we promise, it won’t feel like a chore.

First off, create a cleaning schedule. This isn’t like scheduling a dentist appointment or a root canal – it’s more like scheduling a date with your vacuum cleaner. Write down the areas of your home that need attention, and assign a specific day or time to each one. You can even give your vacuum cleaner a cool nickname, like Dust Buster or Dirt Devil, to make the experience more fun.

Next, keep your cleaning supplies handy. You don’t want to be caught with your pants down (or your gloves off, as it were) when a spill happens. Keep your all-purpose cleaner, microfiber cloths, and other cleaning tools in a convenient location so you can quickly tackle messes as they arise. Bonus points if you give your cleaning supplies fun names, like Scrub-a-Dub-Dub or the Mighty Mop.

Tidying up as you go is another key to keeping your home clean. It’s like playing a game of beat the clock – how quickly can you put away your clothes, wash the dishes, and clean up the toys before the timer runs out? Get your family involved in the game, and turn cleaning into a fun family activity. Maybe even throw in a prize for whoever finishes their cleaning task first – like getting to choose the movie for family movie night.

And lastly, remember that laughter is the best medicine – even when it comes to cleaning. Turn up the tunes and dance around with your mop like nobody’s watching. Sing into your cleaning spray like it’s a microphone. Pretend your vacuum
cleaner is a race car and make vroom-vroom noises as you zoom around your home. Who said cleaning had to be boring?

So, my fellow clean freaks, fear not – keeping your home clean between professional cleanings can be a fun and enjoyable experience. With a little bit of creativity and a lot of humor, you can turn cleaning into a game that the whole family can enjoy.

Maintaining a clean home can be a daunting task, especially if you have a busy schedule. But fear not, fellow homeowners, for there are plenty of cleaning hacks that can help you keep your home looking spick and span without taking up too much of your precious time. Here are some of the top cleaning hacks for busy moms:

One of my favorite hacks, Use a Squeegee to Clean Pet Hair

If you have a furry friend, you know how difficult it can be to remove pet hair from carpets and furniture. But there’s an easy hack to help – use a squeegee! Simply run the squeegee over the surface to gather up the pet hair and dispose of it. It’s a quick and easy way to get rid of pet hair without breaking out the vacuum cleaner.

Clean Your Microwave with Vinegar

Cleaning the microwave can be a messy and time-consuming task. But there’s a simple hack to make it easier – use vinegar! Mix equal parts water and vinegar in a microwave-safe bowl, place it in the microwave, and heat it for five minutes. The steam from the vinegar will loosen the grime and make it easier to wipe away.

Use Baking Soda to Clean the Grease

Grease can be a stubborn and unsightly mess to clean up, especially in the kitchen. But there’s a simple hack to help – use baking soda! Sprinkle baking soda on the greasy surface, let it sit for a few minutes, and then wipe it away with a damp cloth. The baking soda will absorb the grease and make it easier to clean.

Use Dryer Sheets to Clean Baseboards

Baseboards can accumulate dust and dirt over time, but there’s an easy hack to help – use dryer sheets! Simply run a dryer sheet along the baseboards to collect the dust and leave a fresh scent behind. It’s a quick and easy way to clean your baseboards without getting down on your hands and knees.

Use a Shower Squeegee to Clean Tile and Glass

Cleaning tile and glass surfaces in the bathroom can be a frustrating and time-consuming task. But there’s an easy hack to help – use a shower squeegee! Simply run the squeegee over the surface to remove water and prevent soap scum and grime from building up. It’s a quick and easy way to keep your bathroom surfaces clean and shiny.

Maintaining a clean home doesn’t have to be a daunting task, even for busy homeowners. With these simple cleaning hacks, you can keep your home looking spick and span without taking up too much of your precious time. So, give them a try and enjoy a clean and organized home!

Hey there, fellow pet parents! We LOVE pet’s here at Patmos Cleaning. We are official LOVE BOMBERS of Dogs and Cats and we often times have a dog and two cats at the office with us. This is Truffle our office Cat. So we understand that our fur babies are a huge part of our lives, but when it comes to having the cleaning crew over, sometimes our fur friends have an odd reaction to us. Can you believe it?

From curious cats to overzealous dogs, pets can make the cleaning process a bit more adventurous at times for the cleaning teams. But fear not! Here are some tips to help make sure your pets and the cleaners can coexist peacefully:

Consider Crating your pets: I know, I know. Your pets are like family and the thought of locking them up might make you feel like a monster. Consider crating your dog or setting up a cozy room for your cat with their favorite toys and litter box. This will give the cleaners space to do their thing and prevent your furry friend from getting in the way.
Give the cleaners a heads up: Make sure to let the cleaning company know you have pets before they arrive. This will allow them to prepare accordingly and maybe even bring some extra treats for your four-legged friends.

Clean up after your pets: We all know that our pets can be a bit messy at times. Before the cleaning crew arrives, take the time to pick up any toys, clean up any accidents, and remove excess fur from furniture or carpets.

Reward good behavior: If your pets are on their best behavior during the cleaning process, make sure to reward them! A treat or some extra playtime can go a long way in encouraging good behavior in the future.

Laugh it off: Let’s be real, our pets can be downright silly sometimes. If they do happen to get in the way or cause a distraction, just try to have a laugh about it. After all, it’s all part of the pet-owner experience!

By following these tips, you can ensure a smooth and stress-free cleaning experience for both your pets and the cleaning crew. And who knows, maybe your pets will even make some new friends in the process!

Dust is nothing more than an annoyance, so it’s natural that no one wants to live in a dusty home. However, as much as we fight it, dust is nearly impossible to avoid!

But don’t worry! You can still do some things to reduce the dust and prevent your home from looking like an abandoned house. Here are seven tips to help free your home from dust.

Tip #1. Change your bedding regularly

Making the bed every morning isn’t enough to stop dust from settling on it! We all accumulate dust (or dead skin) throughout the day; at night, we leave all those particles on our sheets to collect over time.

So, to avoid dust being trapped in the sheets for a long time, change and wash your bedding regularly. A rule of thumb is to machine wash the sheets and covers (with hot water to reduce dust mites, if possible) every one or two weeks.

Tip #2. Declutter your home

The fewer things you have sitting around, the fewer places where dust can settle. So, start decluttering your home and sort the stuff you don’t need at hand!

However, decluttering your home doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to throw all your things away! Simply putting them in a cabinet or storage bin will help with the dust.

Tip #3. Stop bringing the dirt in with your shoes

The outside world is filled with dust and dirt. So, when you go out and come home, it’s natural that some of that dust gets on your shoes.

So why leave your shoes at the door? This way, you can stop dragging so much outdoor dust and dirt! If you don’t like the idea of walking around barefoot, assign a pair of shoes or slippers for indoors only.

Tip #4. Reduce the number of fabrics at home

Fabrics attract dust and leave lint behind, so if you don’t want your house filling up with debris, try to avoid having too many textile items or fabric furniture.

However, if you can’t get rid of every piece of textile, just make sure you clean it more often—vacuuming rugs and furniture at least twice a week will do!

Tip #5. Cover your surfaces

Try covering surfaces you don’t often clean (like the top shelves) or even places that get dusty very quickly (like tables or sections on your floors).

You can use newspapers, tablecloths, and mats to cover many of these things! This way, instead of repeatedly cleaning those spaces, you can take the covers and shake them off over a trash can.

Tip #6. Keep your pets well groomed

Pets tend to carry a lot of dirt on their fur and paws. So, every time they come back inside your house, they bring all kinds of small debris with them.

To avoid this issue, the best thing you can do is keep your pets well-groomed! This way, you can get rid of most of the little pieces of dirt that get stuck on your furry friend’s hair. For example, brush their hair at least three times a week and wipe their paws clean after each walk!

Tip #7. Maintain a cleaning routine

Since stopping dust from settling around your home is altogether impossible, a cleaning routine is the best way to keep any space dust-free.

Whether it’s a quick dusting, vacuuming, or wiping surfaces, always save some time for keeping your home in top shape!

Extra tip: Hire a cleaning service to keep the dust at bay!

Cleaning every day is not a doable task for everybody. So, if you lack time to set up a proper cleaning routine, you can always get someone else to do the work for you!

Patmos Cleaning offers high-quality cleaning services so you can live in a dust-free home without spending your spare time! Check out our services here.

Nobody wants to wash dishes with a dirty sponge, even less when it means spreading bacteria in the kitchen. Luckily, here you’ll find some of the most effective methods to disinfect your kitchen sponge—finally, say bye-bye to the bacteria in it!

Method #1. Microwave the germs away!

If you care about the facts, most viruses and bacteria start to die at 140°F. Therefore, microwaving your kitchen sponge is a great way to reach (and exceed) those temperatures. Here’s how to do it:

  • Place the sponge into a deep container filled with water. The water helps the sponge reach the desired temperature quickly while preventing it from drying (microwaving a dry sponge can burn it!).
  • Put the dish with the sponge inside your microwave and let it run on high power for one and a half minutes.
  • Wait one more minute for the dish and sponge to cool down.
  • Once cool, remove the sponge and rinse it with clean water.

Method #2. Boil the sponge in water

If you don’t have access to a microwave, boiling water will do just fine. Like the previous method, boiled water eliminates germs by cooking them at 212° F—more than enough. Follow these four steps:

  • Fill a pot with enough water to cover your sponge and place it on your stove until it boils.
  • Carefully soak your kitchen sponge in the boiling liquid and leave it there for five minutes before turning off the stove.
  • After the pot cools down, use any tool (other than your hand) to get the sponge out of the water.
  • Place your sponge under running water to rinse it.

Method #3. Kill germs with bleach

Are you worried about using a potent germ killer such as bleach? Rest assured that this product is safe and effective as long as you dilute in water, wear gloves, and keep the area well-ventilated. To use bleach on your kitchen sponge:

  • Pour two cups of warm water and one tablespoon of bleach into a container. Then, soak the sponge in the solution for ten minutes.
  • After the time’s up, remove your sponge from the container and rinse it with clean water.
  • Rinse your sponge with clean water and squeeze it hard so it can dry faster.

Does vinegar work to disinfect a sponge?

Although vinegar is a very effective cleaner, it isn’t strong enough to eliminate as many bacteria as the previous methods. It’s not even guaranteed it will lower the bacteria numbers to safe levels. Therefore, we recommend you stick to the previous methods.

How many times can you disinfect your sponge?

Disinfecting your sponge should be a one-time solution. As kitchen sponges can harbor a huge number of bacteria, stronger organisms could survive the process only to multiply again later (and they’ll keep surviving your disinfection attempts).

The only way you can be sure your kitchen sponge is germ-free is by changing it weekly (ideally) or when the sponge smells funny.

How about keeping the rest of your house safe and clean?

It’s completely valid not wanting to clean your house because you aren’t in the mood. However, as the mess grows, the motivation gets lower. To break that vicious cycle, check out these seven amazing tips!

Tip #1. Start with small things

Most of the time, starting is the hardest part. Don’t you know where or how to begin your cleaning journey? Start small!

Choose an area and a specific activity like ‘picking up the clothes on my bed’ or ‘sweeping the kitchen floor.’ Leave bigger tasks for later. Once you start, it will be easier to keep going with the rest of the house.

Tip #2. Bring someone over

Sometimes you’ll need a little help to start your cleaning, and that’s fine. Call some friends or family to come over and help you with your chores. To make the cleaning more enjoyable, you can set up snacks and drinks or organize a meal after finishing all the tasks.

Tip #3. Play some music

Play your favorite songs or the ultimate feel-good playlist to make your chores more entertaining and lift your spirits. Did you know that physical activity can improve your mood too? If you dance and clean to the rhythm of uplifting music, you’ll feel better once you’re done.

Tip #4. Listen to a podcast or audiobook

Listening to something interesting takes away the focus from the chore you’re doing. So, this is the perfect time to catch up if you have a pending podcast episode or audiobook.

You’ll end up focusing more on the audio than the task at hand, time will fly off, and you’ll end before you realize it.

Tip #5. Take “cleaning breaks”

If YouTube, Instagram, or any other app keeps you from starting your chores, embrace them instead of fighting them. Set a number of posts or videos to stop and take ten minutes to do cleaning tasks—try to do everything you can before the time is over.

That way, the focus won’t be on the chores, and you won’t have to leave aside your leisure time.

Tip #6. Don’t do it everything at once

Keeping a cleaning mood for hours could feel like a burden—even more if you didn’t feel like it from the start. However, you don’t need to finish all your tasks at once, one after another. Instead, you can spread all your chores throughout the day or week.

Also, you don’t have to set a specific time to do your tasks; instead, take advantage of moments when you have more energy. Once started, do at least one chore daily to keep the cleaning momentum going.

Tip #7. Reward yourself

If you need more than playing music or bringing someone over to feel motivated, try giving yourself a treat. Pick something you’ve longed for or really like as a reward for finishing your chores.

It could be something big like getting a new bag or TV; or something simpler like a dessert or a bouquet of flowers. The important thing is to choose something that makes you happy—you deserve it!
